Retirement Speech
For many years, you put your toil and sweat equity into helping shape the direction of your company. After all the highs and lows, the joys and frustrations, you’ve decided it’s time to call it a day. Retirement is a whole new life – but before entering those golden years, there’s a ceremony to attend. For all involved, this is a time to consider what the retirement speech you are going to give will say. What can you do to ensure that you deliver a memorable retirement speech?? For starters, if you’re preparing to give a retirement speech, you may want to take the opportunity to get yourself together. Relax, and draw a silent breath for the first couple of seconds. Then, take another few seconds to savor the moment, by smiling…or even laughing. This will help break the ice, and set you on the way to a fine speech. But before you actually give the speech, you have to decide how it’s going to be written. Many who give a retirement speech choose to utilize the option of ready-made speeches, which they feel is the road of least resistance. These speeches allow you to make custom changes to a preset template. However, there are many who find that trying to craft a good speech is somewhat compromised when using one of these templates. They find it more difficult to put enough of their own personality into the address. Thus, quite a few choose to write their own retirement speech. By writing your own, you get the chance to add all the flair or traits you feel best describe the retiree, or (if you are the retiree) yourself. Next, you need to get that sense of your guest of honor and the general audience. Is this a casual affair, or a more formal event?? Once you’ve familiarized yourself with this, and with the setting you’re delivering the speech in, you’ll be ready to figure out what kind of remarks you wish to make. If you’re the retiree, you’ll want to make certain that the retirement speech talks about the accomplishments which you have achieved over your years in business, particularly those you’ve spent with the organization from which you’re departing. You can also discuss how both you and your company have grown together in these past many years. Plus, the retirement speech giver will certainly want to bestow their appreciation upon those who have stood alongside them, guided them, and given aid to them along the way. And it never hurts to be able to do it with humor; laugh at yourself, when appropriate – and even get in a few ribbings of some close associates, if it isn’t impolite to do so. Finally, if you are giving a retirement speech for someone else, feel free to offer any sort of poem, memory, or anecdote to show your best wishes to your colleague upon his or her departure from the firm. Hopefully, you will all keep in touch, and the retiree can begin to enjoy the golden years in harmony.
